The stereo speakers do a decent job as well, pumping out music and movie dialogue at a more-than-respectable level of fidelity. Typing and using the trackpad is an absolute pleasure on the Surface Laptop 4, and in terms of day-to-day use it's definitely one of the best laptops we've used in recent times. The 11th-gen Intel chips do come with integrated Iris Xe graphics that can play less demanding games at reasonable resolutions and frame rates.

You'll be pleased to know that the laptop is fully Windows 11 compatible too, when the time comes to upgrade, and in our time with the device it breezed through everything that we asked of it: editing documents, working with images, browsing the web (with dozens of tabs open at a time), and even some light gaming. In other words, the laptop offers plenty of power for just about anything besides high-end gaming and heavy duty image and video editing. Other configurations are available, at different price points: you can get up to an i7 Intel processor, for example, while AMD options are also available, and the maximum available RAM goes all the way up to 32GB if you need it. Pick one of the best lightweight laptops.

The laptop tips the scales at 1.3kg (2.79 pounds). That proprietary port does rather limit you in terms of chargers and other accessories besides what Microsoft itself makes, but it's not something that's a huge drawback in our opinion. In terms of ports, there's not a great selection, though it's fairly standard for a laptop of this size and weight: you get one USB-C port, one USB-A port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and the Surface Connect port that Microsoft likes to put on its laptops. It's worth noting that there's a webcam above the screen, and that Windows Hello login is supported. Besides the standard aluminium design of our review model, you can also opt for an Alcantara material option for that little bit of extra luxury. The design hasn't changed much from the Surface Laptop 3, but then again it didn't really need to.

As you can see from the images accompanying this review, the Surface Laptop 4 can hold its own in terms of aesthetics against most other laptops on the market.
